Housing and Community Support Office
The Housing and Community Support Office (HCSO) is located in Building 539 within the UKJSU HQ on the main Ramstein Air Base. The HCSO staff are responsible for the allocation and administration of all Service Families Accommodation (SFA) and Substitute Single Living Accommodation (SSLA) to personnel serving at Ramstein or in Isolated Detachments (IsoDets). Personnel should note that there is no ‘Barrack Block’ type accommodation in use at UKJSU Ramstein.
For those working at Ramstein, the housing stock is widely dispersed throughout the local area, and for personnel working at one of the many IsoDets parented by UKJSU Ramstein, the accommodation is even more dispersed. Whilst you could have as many as 20 British neighbours in your street, you could equally be the only British family in your village. Housing for accompanied and unaccompanied personnel is hired by the unit from local landlords and is all of very good quality; the vast
majority of the housing stock is Grade 1. Most, but not all, accompanied personnel based at Ramstein are accommodated in small groups
of UK occupied houses in the surrounding villages at various distances away from primary working locations – some as much as 15 km from Ramstein Air Base. Compared with UK SFA, properties are larger than their UK equivalents but most have very small gardens and kitchens. Unaccompanied personnel at Ramstein are housed in flats in Ramstein village.
